Fitness Secret #3 - Get some exercise!!
Not really a secret is it
But where to begin?
The easiest and most low-impact exercise you can do right off the bat is walking.
It's free and humans have been doing it for thousands of years!!
Set a daily step goal and crush it!!
No, the weather is not always cooperative, but there are many places you can walk inside. Teachers can walk before or after school. Nurses can walk around the hospital. Heck you can go to Wal-Mart or Publix and get your steps !!
Your phone should track your steps if you have it set up correctly; however, I recommend getting a separate device like a FitBit or an Apple Watch.
These little devices come with an app that let your "Gamify" your fitness.
If you know me, you know I love fitness apps and devices that give you a goal to shoot for!!
So, don't sleep on walking!!
Your body soon becomes accustomed to walking!!
You will need to go above and beyond your step count!!
Here are some things to consider:
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training ) - periods of work and rest that spike your heart rate and then let your recover...only to spike it again LOL
Strength training...both upper and lower body. The more muscle your have, the more calories your body will burn, so a little extra toned muscle will look good in the mirror AND will burn body fat!!
Mix it up. Your body gets accustomed to anything very quickly. Adaptation has allowed us to survive as a species for thousands of years, but it works against us when we are trying to lose weight. You have to always be mixing your exercise up.
Play games. Once you start dropping some weight and toning up your muscles, you will feel like playing. Golf, bowling, frisbee, tag with the kids, tussling with the dog....the list never ends. I like obstacle courses!!! They are the perfect mix of running and upper body strength, but, hey!!! You do you!!! If you enjoy it, that's all that counts. Learning and playing new games will make the time fly while you are getting your exercise!!
So, how can you get a little exercise today? Only YOU can answer that question!!
If you are not currently active....ANYTHING WILL BE AN IMPROVEMENT
If you are already exercising some and are getting burned out or tired of it.
Change it up somewhat.
